The Cup and The Fire

Theodore Austin-Sparks (1888–1971) was a British evangelist and author. Born in London, he became a Christian at seventeen while listening to street-preachers in Glasgow, and was ordained a Baptist minister at twenty-four. In 1926 he left the denomination and, with like-minded Christians, founded a conference and training centre at Honor Oak in south-east London. From there he published the free magazine "A Witness and A Testimony" until his death, and his conference ministry took him across Europe, North America and Asia. He asked that his messages be shared freely and word for word. Source: Wikipedia (summarized; CC BY-SA)

About this book

“The Cup and The Fire” expounds Jesus’ words in Luke 12:49–50, joining His cup of suffering and baptism of the Cross to the fire’s spread through the Gospel and the Church. Through Acts 12 and the Spirit’s work, Austin-Sparks considers conflict, spiritual advance, and fire as a testing that reveals and divides. The message calls readers to accept the cup and welcome the Spirit’s positive work, even amid suffering and opposition. This message "The Cup and The Fire" was taken from the 1968 and 1969 magazine, "A Witness And A Testimony" by T. Austin-Sparks, based on spoken messages given in October 1956.
