Theodore Austin-Sparks (1888–1971) was a British evangelist and author. Born in London, he became a Christian at seventeen while listening to street-preachers in Glasgow, and was ordained a Baptist minister at twenty-four. In 1926 he left the denomination and, with like-minded Christians, founded a conference and training centre at Honor Oak in south-east London. From there he published the free magazine "A Witness and A Testimony" until his death, and his conference ministry took him across Europe, North America and Asia. He asked that his messages be shared freely and word for word. Source: Wikipedia (summarized; CC BY-SA)

“According to Christ” considers the Church not as a fixed earthly system, but as the living presence and expression of Christ, governed from heaven. Through the Church’s foundations, Peter’s experience of the Cross and resurrection, and Stephen’s vision in Acts 7, Austin-Sparks traces the movement from earthly forms to God’s spiritual and universal purpose. The reader is called to seek Christ’s order and follow the Spirit’s way beyond tradition and mere formalism. First published as a continuing editorial in "A Witness and A Testimony" magazines, Nov-Dec 1958 (Volume 36-6) through May-June 1959 (Volume 37-3).
