Theodore Austin-Sparks (1888–1971) was a British evangelist and author. Born in London, he became a Christian at seventeen while listening to street-preachers in Glasgow, and was ordained a Baptist minister at twenty-four. In 1926 he left the denomination and, with like-minded Christians, founded a conference and training centre at Honor Oak in south-east London. From there he published the free magazine "A Witness and A Testimony" until his death, and his conference ministry took him across Europe, North America and Asia. He asked that his messages be shared freely and word for word. Source: Wikipedia (summarized; CC BY-SA)

“The Ways of God” follows the Lord’s work in salvation, purpose, spiritual strength, discipleship, growth, and glory. Opening with Adam’s failed pursuit of wisdom in Genesis and the biblical call to fear the Lord, it also considers Joseph, David, Israel, Abraham, and Jesus in John’s Gospel. These passages call readers to trust God’s purpose, learn through His dealings, and follow Christ in the way that leads to His glory. We are "called according to His purpose". Does that mean that everything ought to go well and that the sovereignty of God ought to come in all the way along and make victory easy? Not at all! The history of a vessel for Divine purpose is this: the Lord always takes such instruments through very deep ways.
