Service and the Servant of the Lord

Service and the Servant of the Lord

Theodore Austin-Sparks (1888–1971) was a British evangelist and author. Born in London, he became a Christian at seventeen while listening to street-preachers in Glasgow, and was ordained a Baptist minister at twenty-four. In 1926 he left the denomination and, with like-minded Christians, founded a conference and training centre at Honor Oak in south-east London. From there he published the free magazine "A Witness and A Testimony" until his death, and his conference ministry took him across Europe, North America and Asia. He asked that his messages be shared freely and word for word. Source: Wikipedia (summarized; CC BY-SA)

About this book

Beginning with Isaiah’s “Behold My servant,” Austin-Sparks traces service as humanity’s vocation, fulfilled perfectly in Christ after Israel’s failure and entrusted to a faithful people. Through images including the herald, the vine, the threshing instrument, and the sharp sword, he considers how the Servant ministers to God and calls readers to learn Christ’s way of service and share in that calling.
