Samuel and Spiritual Growth

Samuel and Spiritual Growth

Theodore Austin-Sparks (1888–1971) was a British evangelist and author. Born in London, he became a Christian at seventeen while listening to street-preachers in Glasgow, and was ordained a Baptist minister at twenty-four. In 1926 he left the denomination and, with like-minded Christians, founded a conference and training centre at Honor Oak in south-east London. From there he published the free magazine "A Witness and A Testimony" until his death, and his conference ministry took him across Europe, North America and Asia. He asked that his messages be shared freely and word for word. Source: Wikipedia (summarized; CC BY-SA)

About this book

Through the story of Samuel in 1 Samuel, Austin-Sparks traces spiritual growth from its beginnings in Hannah’s travail to Samuel’s maturity, discernment of the Lord’s voice, and power in prayer. The ark, a picture of Christ as Israel’s glory, reveals what God commits Himself to and what sustains spiritual progress; the account also warns how spiritual decline gives the enemy room to counterfeit God’s purposes. Readers are called to seek Christ’s place and to persevere in prayer.
