Andrew Murray (1828–1917) was a South African pastor and writer in the Dutch Reformed Church. Educated in Scotland and the Netherlands, he served congregations at Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington, and was six times moderator of his church. Murray wrote some 240 books on prayer and the deeper Christian life; our library holds Abide in Christ, With Christ in the School of Prayer, Absolute Surrender, and The Prayer Life.

Murray follows the Holy Spirit’s work from Christ’s promise in John’s Gospel and the outpouring at Pentecost through the teaching of Paul. He explores the Spirit’s indwelling, guidance, power, prayer, and formation of love and unity, calling believers to depend on the Spirit, walk in obedience, and live filled with him in service to Christ.
