Edward McKendree Bounds (1835–1913) was an American Methodist minister and author. A lawyer turned preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, he served as a Confederate chaplain during the Civil War and afterward pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Bounds rose at half past four each morning to pray, and nearly all his books — Power Through Prayer and eight more on prayer, most in our library — appeared after his death.

E. M. Bounds presents prayer as the source of spiritual strength and a means by which believers seek God’s help in every part of life. Drawing on Scripture—from Christ’s command to ask, seek, and knock to the promises of Ezekiel and examples across biblical history—he considers faith, answered prayer, miracles, and divine providence, calling readers to earnest, persistent prayer grounded in God’s Word.
