A Call to Prayer

A Call to Prayer

John Charles Ryle (1816–1900) was an English evangelical clergyman who became the first bishop of Liverpool in 1880. Converted while at Oxford, he served country parishes for nearly forty years before his bishopric, preaching and writing in a plain, direct style. His Holiness, his Expository Thoughts on the Gospels, and works such as Old Paths and Practical Religion remain standard reading for evangelical Anglicans and far beyond.
